Fantasy author Neil Gaiman wrote - "Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten." When thinking about what I would preach for Advent of 2024, I thought about all of the angst in our society right now - how so many of the things we fear in society and politics and culture seem unstoppable and sometimes become debilitating anxieties. This story, broken up into sermons preached at St. Matthias Church in Waukesha, Wisconsin for Advent, reminds us that dragons can indeed be confronted with the help of Hope, Integrity and Perseverance. I'm pretty sure mother Julian's writings are going to figure in significantly here. I hope this brings you some joy and comfort in this advent season.
