Two Baptists, one chapter of Matthew, and a wall neither the text nor a democracy actually allows. This is less about who won a thirty-minute meeting than about the move underneath Johnson's reading — the quiet severing of the individual from the state, so that a vote stops counting as one's own conduct. The parable itself refuses that severance, and it refuses it in a way that should unsettle everyone: the sheep and the goats are equally surprised.
