Two Baptists, One Bible Chapter, Two Completely Different Gospels

Raphael Warnock and Mike Johnson spent thirty minutes on one Bible chapter and left further apart than they started. The distance between them is the whole argument.

Two Baptists, one chapter of Matthew, and a wall neither the text nor a democracy actually allows. This is less about who won a thirty-minute meeting than about the move underneath Johnson's reading — the quiet severing of the individual from the state, so that a vote stops counting as one's own conduct. The parable itself refuses that severance, and it refuses it in a way that should unsettle everyone: the sheep and the goats are equally surprised.
